Patrick Mahomes threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns and the Kansas City defense forced a pivotal second-half turnover as the Chiefs edged the Bills 32-29 on Sunday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
The win clinches the AFC No. 1 seed for Kansas City and a first-round bye, while Buffalo drops into the wild-card round despite 341 total yards and two touchdowns from Josh Allen.
Mahomes connected on scoring strikes to three different receivers and added 47 rushing yards, continuing a late-season surge that has the Chiefs peaking at the right time. The Bills led 20-17 at halftime before a relentless Chiefs pass rush took over, sacking Allen twice on third down in the fourth quarter.
"We knew it was going to come down to a possession or two," Mahomes said. "We just kept firing."
Buffalo will host a wild-card game next weekend. Kansas City awaits the lowest remaining seed in the divisional round.
